Why doesn't my dome light work on my 1996 Mazda Protege LX?

Ok for instance let's say I have the switch on my dome light set to "DOOR". Whenever I open my door, no lights come on but the 2 lights side by side come on if I press their buttons. What could this mean since none of them come on when I open any of my doors? Also my radio LCD light stopped working what does this mean? I have the stock 96 Protege cassete player that came with my car.
